Ultrasound
An ultrasound examination is performed using a handheld transducer that transmits non-harmful high frequency sound waves into a body part, which are reflected back to the probe and converted to electrical impulses and dynamic images.
Ultrasound has many applications. It can be used to evaluate most body parts.
Doppler ultrasound is used to evaluate mostly vascular structures for flow characteristics, stenosis and occlusion.
Ultrasound is also used in many dynamic imaging guided interventional procedures, like injections, aspirations and biopsies.
We have a range of new state-of-the-art ultrasound machines and many different transducers for high quality examinations. We perform ultrasound examinations at all our practices.
We only perform first trimester dating and pregnancy confirmation scans. Further follow-up needs to be booked with your obstetrician.
If you are to receive any injection, aspiration or biopsy please inform us when making the booking whether you are taking any anti-clotting medication or if you are at risk for excessive bleeding.
After the procedure the radiologist may give you feedback. If the sonographer performs the examination, a radiologist will review it. A written report will be sent to your referring doctor for further management.
