Fluoroscopy
Fluoroscopy uses low dose X-rays to create real-time images and short video clips of structures and their function. Radiodense iodinated contrast may be used during procedures to evaluate anatomy and function.
Fluoroscopy is also used in dynamic imaging guided interventional procedures, like joint injections for symptomatic treatment and for arthrography.
If you have a history of allergies or previous reactions to iodinated contrast, please inform your doctor and the radiographer prior to the examination.
Please inform your doctor or the radiographer if there is a chance you may be pregnant.
If you are to receive any injection, please inform us when making the booking whether you are taking any anti-clotting medication or at risk for excessive bleeding.
After the procedure the radiologist may give you feedback, but a written report will be sent to your referring doctor for further management.
We perform fluoroscopic procedures at our George, Knysna and Oudtshoorn practices.
