Bone Densitometry
A bone densitometry or dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry scan (DEXA), uses low-dose x-rays to measure bone mineral density (BMD). The BMD is then compared to values from normal reference populations to determine if it falls into normal, osteopenic or osteoporotic ranges. The information obtained is used to determine your risk of bone fracture and assists in monitoring bone loss and in planning any preventative treatment.
No specific preparation is needed.
A written report with all the findings will be sent to your referring doctor.
We perform bone densitometry at our George practice.
