Computed Tomography (CT) Computed Tomography (CT)

A CT scanner uses X-rays to obtain many images from different angles while the patient moves through the scanner gantry on a motorized bed. The images are then reconstructed into cross sectional or 3D images of the body.

Iodinated oral or IV contrast may be needed for improved visualization and interpretation of findings.

Each CT scan differs depending on the body part imaged and is tailored for each individual and condition.

CT scanners can also be used in guided interventional procedures.

You will be provided with instructions when making the booking as an outpatient or prior to the scan when performed as a hospital patient.

Please inform your doctor or the radiographer if you have a history of allergies or previous contrast reactions.

Please inform your doctor or the radiographer if there is a chance you may be pregnant.

A written report with all the findings will be sent to your referring doctor.

We perform CT scans at our George, Knysna, Oudtshoorn and Plettenberg Bay practices.
