A remarkable moment in local history unfolded on the evening of 19 May 2025, when a one-year-old lion cub named Zamba underwent a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan at Garden Route Radiology in George.

 

Zamba is one of five lively male cubs living at the Outeniqua Game Farm, nestled in the scenic Ruiterbos region of the Outeniqua Mountains. Earlier this year, Zamba suffered a fall from a tree and has since shown signs of imbalance. Despite several rounds of treatment, his condition persisted, prompting his caretakers to pursue more advanced diagnostics.

 

The MRI scan—an advanced tool for capturing detailed images of soft tissues such as the brain, spinal cord, muscles, and organs—was performed in the hope of uncovering the underlying cause of his symptoms.
